Custom Reviews:
Life from a different angle
5 out of 5 stars.
What hit me first was the front cover of the book and its title. After reading "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy, "The curious..." seemed to be the relaxing and funny book I was looking for. And I was definitely not disappointed.
As a non native speaker l think its easy to read. It is written from the point of view of the fifteen-year-old Christopher Boon who suffers from Aspergers Syndrom, a form of autism. But easy to read does not mean that there is nothing to learn. Or do you know the complexity of "The Monty Hall Problem"? But you also learn how things we call familiar and common can develop into an almost insoluble problem. But learning is the smallest part in this thrilling murder mystery novel, that is written in such a lovely and lively manner.
Christopher Boone likes math because it`s logic, he has difficulties with new situations, he doesn't like food when it`s got particular colour and he decides by the colour of cars, if it`s going to be a good or a bad day. Seems a bit crazy, doesn't it? But when it comes to interpersonal relationships, his parents act much more absurdly than he does.
"The curious..." is a coming-of-age story that allows us to see life from a different angle. It provides an opportunity to question the logic behind our actions and to take a look at our selective perception. Probably things would be easier for all of us, if we looked for the colour of the cars on our way to work. Probably there are six red cars in a row.

Annoyingly daft entertainment
1 out of 5 stars.
It's amazing how many people praise the novel for its supposed insight it gave them into an autistic mind - of which they admit they don't have any idea. None of them seem to realise that the book merely meets their expectations of what an autistic mind would be like (as one can see by those reviews that confuse asperger downright with autism), and that moreover these expectations imply their being entertained by the deficiencies of the protagonist. Speaking as someone who has followed the recent debates surrounding asperger syndrome, as well as someone with personal experience of asperger children and adults I found the book pathetic. It does not do justice to asperger children and their often unacknowledged ingenuity but prefers the entertainment level of a freak show.

Tolles Buch!
5 out of 5 stars.

Lachen trotz Autismus
5 out of 5 stars.

lesenswert!
5 out of 5 stars.
